Get To Know Me

Hello North Fulton County Voters,

My name is Grace Demit, and I'm running for Congress because it's time for the 49th district to be represented by someone who truly represents the people who live here. The incumbent has been in office since 2003, when I was 5 years old. Now, at 27, I'm ready to bring a fresh perspective and represent people in the district in the Georgia House of Representatives, working towards a better future for all.

I know a thing or two about fighting hard and overcoming adversity. I suffered a traumatic brain injury at age 14, and because of that I live with a permanent disability. I have had more life experience in my 26 years than many people will have in a lifetime. And as someone who is also autistic, I've faced additional challenges that, while they have made a lot of things difficult for me, have also offered me a unique perspective on the world. I want to use my life experiences to advocate for more support and understanding for people with disabilities, among other underrepresented groups. I also have a service dog, a poodle named Rosie who is always by my side to help me and give me greater independence.  And as the only woman running in this district’s race, if elected I will be a much needed voice for women in the Georgia House of Representatives. We need a government that actually represents and reflects the diversity of our state.

We need things like better health care that's affordable and accessible for everyone through medicaid expansion, and women need to be allowed to make their own healthcare decisions instead of having it decided for them by government officials. We need to invest in education and our educators and create more opportunities for all students to thrive, especially students with disabilities. We must address the very real threat of global climate change by enacting policies to protect the environment in our beautiful state. And we need to fight for progressive policies that the vast majority of Georgians actually want.

Are you with me?

Grace Demit

Democratic Nominee for Georgia House of Representatives, District 49

Get To Know Rosie

My Service Dog and Unofficial Running Mate

If you see me around, you will more than likely also see my service dog, Rosie. Rosie is a 6 year old standard poodle and I have had her since 2017 when she was 9 weeks old.

Rosie is both self-trained and professionally trained to accompany me in public wherever I go and to perform specific tasks to help me lead a more independent life. Not only is she extremely qualified for her job, but she really enjoys it. She gets excited when she sees me get out her working vest, which means it’s time to get to work! Rosie is trained to help me with symptoms from my traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She also helps me through challenges I face every day as an autistic person.

Rosie wears a vest in public that identifies her as a service dog. I would love for people to come up and say hello to me, but please keep in mind that Rosie is a working dog and if you come across me (or anyone with a service or guide dog) know that the dog is working and you shouldn’t pet, talk to, feed, or distract the dog while it is working, even if you already know the dog. There are times when I allow Rosie to say hello to people, but she is there to help me. Don’t worry, when we are at home and she is off duty she is just like any other dog, lounging on the couch and playing with her favorite toys.
